9. The Discount House is building a new mobile home supply center (just south of Monkey Junction).
10. The Hibachi Bistro is almost finished in the Home Depot shopping center. They plan to open in early April. They're like Hiro's, but casual. You order at a counter and then they deliver to your seat. They will have a sushi bar if you like your fish uncooked.
11. Massage Envy will open soon. (They're also in the Home Depot shopping center.)

Eric over at CarolinaBeachToday.com has a cool graph that shows how commercial permits have been on the rise in Carolina Beach.

Don't these people know there's a depression going on!!

The Frying Pan Dive Center
In our January edition we told you that Frying Pan Tower was on the auction block. (We suggested turning it into a bed & breakfast.) Well, as of today it has a buyer.

A South Carolina company won the bidding with a $515,000 offer. They plan to turn it into a sport fishing and dive center.

I won't take credit for this story, I read it in the Star-News.

Snow's Cut Monthly will not be free much longer
As you may have heard by now, we will stop being a free magazine staring in May. Please understand that we don't have much of a choice. We just cannot continue to ask our local advertisers to foot the bill.

For SCM to truly be a community magazine, we all have to pitch in to pay for it. Our new format will have less ads, more content and nicer pictures. We'll continue to keep you up to date on local happenings with thoughful articles and a sense of humor.

We give our heart and soul to bring you a magazine to be proud of - we hope that you'll show us your support by subscribing.

You can even subscribe online.

This weekend on the Cape Fear Peninsula
Check out the SCM Pleasure Island Event Calendar. We list everything that is happening around town and update it whenever something comes up.

Tonight, Thursday, March 5 - The Sea Dawgs play at the CFCC Shwartz Center at 7pm. They're kicking but lately and a win tonight puts them in first place. It's also Z107.5 night, so the first 107.5 fans get a free t-shirt. I guess the 1/2 fan would be an unborn baby?

Tickets are only $5 and the Budweiser is half off. I've been to two games so far and my kids have a great time.

Friday, March 6 - Divine Wines' weekly free wine tasting will focus on wines from the Rhone Valley in France. Owner Ernie Manzella is a wine savant. You can call him anytime at 791-1251 for a little advice.

The Cape Fear Museum and the Cape Fear Jazz Society present winter jazz in the New Hanover County Government Center (formerly the Marketplace Mall) at 6pm. Bring your own chairs and pack a picnic (drinks are OK) for the Benny Hill Quartet.

Benny Hill? I love him!

The Bellamy Mansion Museum hosts Art of the Table, a collection of creatively themed tabletops designed by local artists, boutiques, florists and interior designers. Two of the designers are local favorites Cathy Winseck of the Checkered Church and Roxanne Thompson of Island Florals.

Just for Fun...
They say that sarcasm and irony died in 2001, but not in my world. Do you have one of those motivational prints in your office? I'll bet you do. Some people call them successories (Success + accessories - get it?).

This company has made living creating anti-motivational prints.

It's Official!
Bob and Kim Lewis have been hesitant to make a big deal about their ownership of the Last Resort because, well, they haven't actually owned it.

They've been operating it for a few months now, but the contract hadn't been finalized until earlier this week.

Now it's official, so let the party begin. They're open 7 days a week for the rest of the summer.

I suggest stopping in, the place looks great.

Tomorrow night (Friday) they invite the Notorious Gringos - who used to be called the Deadnotes until they found out that  someone got the name first.

That's the kind of legal BS you have to think about when you hit the big time. The NG's will travel to Texas soon to record their first album.

The Gringos play good, fun, Texas hillbilly rock.

The Last Resort has lots planned for this spring, including a Mardis Gras celebration weekend, March Madness specials and their new Sunday night Server Specials.

If you serve food or drinks for a living, stop in for Sunday drink specials.
